UPSR Results
Terengganu does it again

KUALA TERENGGANU: Te-rengganu has done it again. For nine consecutive years, the state has achieved the highest percentage of straight As in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination in the country.
State Education Department director Ariffin Embong said of the 24,156 candidates who sat for the UPSR this year, 3,664 scored five As.

"That is equivalent to 15.3 per cent of those who sat for the exam, a jump of almost one per cent over last year's 14.4 per cent," he told reporters at his office in Bukit Kechil here yesterday.

Ariffin said rural schools were doing much better than urban schools.

He said the pass rate had improved slightly from 68.6 per cent last year to 68.8 per centthis year while the grade point average was also better, from 2.24 last year to 2.22 this year.

"That is not bad considering the national grade point average is 2.33," he said while pointing out performance in Bahasa Malaysia and English had deteriorated slightly compared with previous years.
